Constantine man apprehended after high speed chase ends in ditch

Shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 27, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Deputies engaged in a vehicle pursuit in the southern part of the county. 

At approximately 12:28 a.m., deputies “attempted to stop a vehicle on Mintdale Road near Lutz Road for a speeding violation,” according to a press release issued by Sheriff Mark A. Lillywhite. The vehicle did not stop, and deputies pursued it along Mintdale Road at speeds up to 100 miles per hour. The pursuit ended near Engle Road when the vehicle lost control and landed in a ditch beside the road. 

The driver is a 27-year-old man from Constantine, who was taken into custody “without further incident.” The man was lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on a number of preliminary charges that include fleeing and eluding police, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of methamphetamine, possession of burglary tools, possession of a police scanner while committing a felony, felon in possession of ammunition, and several outstanding arrest warrants.
