Kalamazoo woman alleges she was raped by Andrew George in late 2000s

George ‘outright and wholly’ denies allegations

Late Wednesday evening a Kalamazoo woman named Megan Martin, who is a Three Rivers native, alleged Andrew George, the chair of the Three Rivers Downtown Development Authority Board and a former candidate for St. Joseph County County Commission, raped Martin some time in the late 2000s.

In a comment on a Watershed Voice story on Facebook Wednesday about George’s reappointment to the TRDDA board, as well as on the Facebook group Three Rivers, Michigan Area Information, Martin said she recently filed a formal complaint with the State of Michigan concerning the alleged sexual assault. Martin commented the following on the aforementioned article:

“In the late years of the 2000s I was raped By Andrew George. Unfortunately I was was afraid of reporting him and when I finally did so it was past the time Michigan would allow to file a criminal complaint. I filed a formal complaint to the state of Michigan and the case number you can look up is 54-3810-20.

“Andrew George took advantage of me. I with great sorrow remember when he slapped me across the face while I Was not in my right mind and mind you it was only after he asked for my consent. Afterward he left the room and yelled and told everyone in the other rooms… bragged that he hand [sic] forced himself on me. He is despicable.”

Martin’s post on Three Rivers, Michigan Area Information read as follows:

“Hello I am about to be very transparent and call out a figure within the community. It has been a hard decision whether to do so or not. But here it goes In the late years of the 2000s I was raped By Andrew George. Unfortunately I was was afraid of reporting him and when I finally did so it was past the time Michigan would allow to file a criminal complaint. I filed a formal complaint to the state of Michigan and the case number you can look up is 54-3810-20. Andrew George took advantage of me. I with great sorrow remember when he slapped me across the face while I Was not in my right mind and mind you it was only after he asked for my consent. Afterward he left the room and yelled and told everyone in the other rooms… bragged that he hand [sic] forced himself on me. He is despicable. So when you are voting for officials for Three Rivers remember who the person Andrew George is and remember that I have better things to do with my time. Cancel Andrew George.”

Watershed Voice spoke to George just after midnight Thursday concerning the allegations. George said he will release a full statement some time Thursday but denies Martin’s recollection of the night in question.

“I believe that everyone should have the chance to tell their story. However, with complete integrity, I can say that this did not happen how Mrs. Martin is presenting it. I outright and wholly deny these allegations. I will release a full statement on Thursday. For now, I just want to be with my partner, Brian, while we navigate where to go from here.”
