Portage man dies in single-vehicle crash in Park Township

A 60-year-old Portage man died Tuesday, May 11 after his vehicle left the roadway on Parkville Road in Park Township.

Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were called to the 52000 block of Parkville Road at approximately 1:30 p.m. Tuesday with a report of a delivery vehicle leaving the roadway. Initial investigation of the scene revealed the vehicle was originally northbound on Parkville Road when it veered west off the road, striking a guidewire for a power pole and a pile of scrap metal, eventually coming to rest in a field.

Authorities believe the driver suffered a possible medical issue prior to leaving the roadway. Deputies attempted lifesaving measures upon arrival but were unsuccessful, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by Fabius-Park Fire Department and the Three Rivers Fire Department.
