Members of the Three Rivers Woman’s Club (TRWC) joined Three Rivers DDA Master Gardener Jason Ballew Friday to clean up and add new butterfly friendly plants to the downtown mural mall’s butterfly garden.

Friday’s project, sponsored by the woman’s club, is a combined effort between TRDDA Director Tricia Meyer and the TRWC to beautify downtown while “doing good for the environment.” TRWC’s Mary Kay Todd said the club planned to clean up the garden in order to “get things under control” before they planted all new butterfly friendly plants. Todd said the club planned to leave some of the original native plants in the garden like Black-eyed Susans and Goldenrod in addition to the new plants.

The Three Rivers Woman’s Club, the oldest service organization in Three Rivers (est. 1891), has sponsored over 100 college scholarships for area students, and supports Domestic And Sexual Abuse Services (DASAS) and Keystone Place through donations and the Afghan Project, among several other community building efforts.
