Sturgis motorcyclist airlifted to hospital with life threatening injuries

A Sturgis woman was transported to Bronson Hospital Sunday night with life threatening injuries following a motorcycle vs. car collision in the area of US-12 and White School Road in Sturgis Township.

The 25-year-old motorcyclist was westbound on US-12 at approximately 7:49 p.m. Sunday when a 75-year-old Indiana man pulled out into the intersection from White School Road and collided with the motorcycle. The woman was airlifted from the scene to Bronson Hospital by Air Care with life threatening injuries. The driver and passenger of the vehicle were unharmed.

According to authorities, speed may have been a factor and the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The incident remains under investigation.

Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were assisted by the Tri-County Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, Michigan State Police, and Air Care.
