Colon Downtown Development Authority recently announced it’s making big moves to drive visitors with a new website and branding done by Circa Design. DDA members say the milestone is a major move for Colon on its mission to bring the “Magic Capital of the World” back into the national spotlight.

“It’s time for this community with its important history to make a comeback on the national stage,” DDA member Michael Malmborg.

The website, which launched on December 29, 2021, comes in the wake of Colon’s acceptance into MSU’s Sustainable Built Environments Initiative. A program that will reimagine the downtown district for modernizing and future economic development. Colon is known throughout the magic community as the “magic capital of the world,” a distinction that came about when Abbott Magic, founded in 1926, started a get together for magicians from all over the world called Magic Week. The time-honored event continues to this day.

The DDA hopes to capitalize on this unique distinction for Colon, but also will work to promote the lakes and downtown businesses to current and new visitors in an effort to drive positive economic growth for the community. Small towns are having to reinvent themselves for the modern world in order to entice companies to locate here, and bring jobs and necessary tax dollars.

“In order to build a sustaining local economy we need people throughout this region to see Colon as a special place to see a show at one of the theaters, grab a bite at one of the casual restaurants and spend some time on one of the lakes,” DDA member Camille Wilson said.
