Two arrested after a Three Rivers robbery leads to two car chases, a stolen car, and a car crash

Local authorities were quite busy early Tuesday morning as a strange turn of events led to the arrest of two Three Rivers robbery suspects.

At 3:50 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, the Three Rivers Police were dispatched to a robbery in the 400 block of 8thAve. While officers were investigating and processing the scene, deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it. Authorities were led on a chase that eventually ended on North River Road near Hebron Road in Mottiville Township where the driver, a 25-year-old Sturgis woman, was taken into custody.

The passenger, a 28-year-old male, fled on foot. The man proceeded to steal a vehicle from a business on Hebron Road, and was pursued into Cass County, where he crashed on US-12 near Five Points Road. The 28-year-old was transported to Elkhart for medical treatment, and was later taken into custody and is awaiting extradition back to Michigan.

The investigation into these events is ongoing, and charges will be sought by the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Three Rivers Police Department at (269) 278-1235 or Silent Observer at (616) 774-2345.
