Three Rivers man sent to hospital after his truck strikes several trees

A 25-year-old Three Rivers man was transported to a local hospital Tuesday after his truck left the roadway and struck several trees in Florence Township.

At approximately 6:37 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Constantine and Withers Roads in Florence township. The driver, later identified as Delmar Laughry, was traveling southbound on Constantine Road when he lost control of his truck. Authorities believe Laughry crossed the centerline after driving over the Grand Elk railroad tracks before running off the left side of the roadway and striking several trees.

Laughry was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and airbags were not equipped. Drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the incident but it does appear Laughry was traveling at high speed when the crash occurred.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the White Pigeon Police Department, LifeCare Ambulance, the Constantine Fire Department and Bowers Towing.
