Shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 11, Three Rivers Community Schools announced that due to a recent social media post, which it subsequently described as a threat, the schools will be closed Thursday, September 12.
As of Wednesday evening, a post was circulating among local social media. Neither Three Rivers Community Schools nor the Three Rivers Police Department had confirmed as of 9:30 p.m. Wednesday that it was the aformentioned threat. Watershed Voice will verify the post’s authenticity before sharing it.
“TRCS takes this information seriously and the safety of our school community is important,” the district stated. “We will be actively investigating the threat and will update if any further information is required.”
Three Rivers High School Principal Carrie Balk also commented Wednesday evening.
“I so thankful for the number of calls, Facebook messages, texts and emails l’ve received in the last 30 minutes,” Balk wrote on Facebook. “Like I told all students during class meetings the first week of school, we are ALL responsible for keeping our school safe. Thank you to all of you who did the right thing and reached out to school officials immediately. We are investigating and we will ensure the safety of our students and staff.”
