A new local progressive organization called Community Equality Resources (C.E.R.) finished second in Colon’s Fourth of July parade this weekend, a feat they say is a major step in the process of “breaking down barriers” within the village and township for “members of the LGBTQIA+ community, and by extension all diverse groups of peoples within the village.”

A 39-year-old man was transported by Air Care to an area hospital after an accident in Colon Township this past Saturday morning. According to a press release by St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite, Deputies responded at about 7:23 a.m. to a location near Burr Oak Road and West Palmer Lake Road. Craig Holman of Angola, Indiana had crossed the center line of the road, left the roadway to his left, and struck a series of trees.

This week, Watershed Voice heard from several readers who reported rumors were circulating that in some townships, up to two-thirds of absentee ballots had been tossed without being counted. After an inquiry to her office, County Clerk Lindsay Oswald, who serves on the BOC, provided the minutes of the August 6 BOC meeting, when its members reviewed the sealed ballot boxes that the townships submitted.
