During the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners’ meeting Tuesday, Emergency Management Coordinator Erin Goff provided a brief update on the county’s emergency management efforts and COVID-19 statistics.

Goff said the county is still “providing support” with food distribution, but is no longer spearheading those efforts, as the state moves into Phase 4 of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s six-phase reopening plan from “flattening” to “improving.”

Goff said St. Joseph County’s total positive cases stand at 129, and the total number of confirmed deaths due to COVID-19 remains at two. Total cases statewide stand at 57,731 with 5,553 deaths attributed to COVID-19. State data also puts daily confirmed cases at 199 and daily COVID-19 deaths at 37.

During commissioner comments: Commissioner Dennis Allen said the commission could begin meeting in-person as soon as July, but would likely continue broadcasting the meetings to the public.
