The Three Rivers Police Department announced Friday it is seeking multiple charges related to a fatal hit and run that occurred in the Meijer parking lot on Thursday, June 18, and resulted in the death of Laura Jacobs.

TRPD has submitted a warrant request to the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office requesting charges be brought against 27-year-old Thomas Stambaugh for driving with a suspended license resulting in death, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident. Stambaugh is currently lodged at the St. Joseph County Jail on unrelated charges.

The Three Rivers Police Department was called to the scene of the hit and run at approximately 1:05 p.m. Thursday, June 18. Upon arrival paramedics from the Three Rivers Fire Department performed life saving measures on Jacobs but were unsuccessful. An accident investigator from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department along with evidence techs from the Three Rivers Police Department processed the scene for evidence. A canvas was done of local businesses to obtain surveillance video of the crash.

Officers were assisted by the Three Rivers Fire Department, St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police and Constantine Police Department.
