Break-in Suspect Arrested After Shots Fired in Nottawa Township

In a press release, the Office of St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite reported that a suspect was arrested Tuesday following a reported break-in which included reported gunshots. Deputies responded to a Nottawa Township trailer park following a report of shots fired. According to the release, the subject attempted to break into an occupied residence, firing a single shot before fleeing on foot.

After fleeing, the subject reportedly entered a fire-damaged residence in the 27000 block of Findley Road to hide out. Deputies believed the subject to have been armed, and the subject allegedly made comments about having a weapon in his possession. The incident prompted activation of and response by the St. Joseph County Special Response Team, and the suspect was eventually taken into custody.

The incident remains under investigation, and the Sheriff’s Office instructs anyone with information about it to call St. Joseph County Central Dispatch at 269-467-4195.
