The Centreville Bulldogs Varsity Football team are state champions for the first time in school history. Led by a suffocating defense all season, the Bulldogs managed to shut out the explosive Ubly Bearcats offense, 22-0 on Friday, January 22 at Ford Field.

Senior quarterback Sam Todd led the offense with an impressive 137 passing yards and two touchdowns on 6 of 7 passing, while adding 70 yards on the ground. The star of the game, however, was junior wide receiver Tyler Swanwick. Swanwick reeled in four receptions for 97 yards and two touchdowns. Each of Swanwick’s receptions would even make some NFL players blush.

The Bulldogs ended their historic campaign with an impressive undefeated season, while their defense paved the way in the history. The Bulldogs dominating defense only surrendered a total of 29 total points all season, and have allowed just north of 1,000 total yards against them. Their total point margin appears to be the lowest in the state since Saginaw Arthur Hill accomplished a shutout season in 1973. To add to these impressive feats, the longest play against the Bulldogs from the line of scrimmage was a 16-yard scamper earlier in the season.

After graduating a handful of seniors in the Spring, the Bulldogs will look to repeat as Division 8 State Champions in the Fall.
