Two Sturgis men sustained injuries in a single-vehicle crash in Park Township Saturday, according to authorities.

At approximately 6 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Silver Street, south of Michigan Avenue, in Park Township. Initial investigation into the incident showed that a Chrysler passenger car was traveling southbound on Silver Street when it went off the west side of the roadway, striking several trees before coming to a stop.

The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old Sturgis man, sustained only minor injuries, while his passenger, a 20-year-old man also from Sturgis, sustained serious injuries.

Seatbelts were worn, and drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. Excessive speed, however, was determined to be a factor, and the driver was cited for driving without due care.
