Bans Off Our Bodies Protest planned for Saturday in Centreville

The Bans Off Our Bodies Protest is scheduled to start at noon outside of the St. Joseph County Courthouse with the expectation that demonstrators will disperse around 4 p.m.

In the wake of last week’s landmark decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling that established abortion as a constitutional right, a wave of demonstrations have taken place nationwide. A local group plans to follow suit this Saturday in Centreville, with organizers expecting approximately 200 people to participate.

The Bans Off Our Bodies Protest is scheduled to start at noon outside of the St. Joseph County Courthouse with the expectation that demonstrators will disperse around 4 p.m.

“The Supreme Court just took away our right to abortion, opening the floodgates for states across the country to ban abortion,” the event’s description reads. “It’s time to make some noise. We must demand control over our bodies, our lives, and our futures.”

The event is being organized by members of Three Rivers Pride, a local group recently formed to raise funds for an annual Pride festival in Three Rivers.
