11-year-old girl killed in crash in Constantine Township

An 11-year-old child was killed in a two-car fatal crash Sunday in Constantine Township, according to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Klett Road and Quaker Street at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, August 7. 

Authorities say a 49-year-old Bristol, Indiana woman was traveling southbound in a Hyundai SUV on Klett Road when they failed to yield at a stop sign. The SUV proceeded to travel into the intersection before striking a Chevrolet SUV traveling eastbound on Quaker Street. 

An 11-year-old female passenger in the Chevrolet SUV sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was determined deceased at the scene. The driver of the Hyundai SUV and two additional children in the Chevrolet SUV sustained minor injuries in the crash. Alcohol nor drugs are believed to have been factors in the crash, seatbelts were worn by all parties involved, and the incident remains under investigation. 

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Constantine Police and Fire Departments, the Three Rivers Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance, White Pigeon Police Department, and Michigan DNR.
