Nominated for awards in two categories
Watershed Voice staff will head to the Independent News Sustainability Summit in Austin, Texas this week, where journalists from across the country will gather for learning and skill-building, as well as the 2022 LION Local Journalism Awards. Watershed will not publish on Thursday and Friday as a result.
Two pieces submitted by Alek Haak-Frost for consideration have been nominated for awards in two different categories:
- Outstanding Coverage Award: ‘Why now?’ Linda Shank didn’t wait 10 years to tell her story, just so little was done about it
- Public Service Award: How one clinic is making mental health services more accessible for Three Rivers students
The winners will be announced at the awards dinner and ceremony during the summit on Friday, October 28.
The summit is put on in part by Local Independent Online News (LION) Publishers, of which Watershed Voice is a member. Sessions will follow three ‘tracks’ to assist journalists in their work: Finance Health, Journalistic Impact, and Operational Resilience.
Support for travel, accommodation, and other costs was provided by the Kalamazoo Community Foundation.
Deborah Haak-Frost is the Caretaker for Community Engagement at GilChrist Retreat Center in Three Rivers, and volunteers with *culture is not optional, a Three Rivers-based community development organization.
