Sturgis announces spring brush, leaf pickup schedule

Pickup starts April 1, compost site to open April 2

With spring weather arriving, the City of Sturgis Department of Public Services released the spring brush and leaf pickup schedule for 2024.

The schedule starts on April 1. Crews will begin pickup in the north side of the city and work their way south. Due to the variability of weather conditions and the amounts of brush, the city asks residents to have their materials on the terrace ready for pickup as much as possible. Crews will make only one pass through the north and south side of the city. If you miss the pickup on April 1, crews will return to pick up the first full week of May, and then again the first full week of October.

It is important to note that it is illegal to place brush or leaves beyond the curb in the street. Materials must be neatly stacked on the terrace away from objects such as power poles, guy wires, sign posts, valve boxes, and other obstructions. The limit of one truckload of material per parcel is also in effect.

Branches, limbs, and brush materials longer than four inches in diameter will not be collected. Brush materials longer than eight feet in length also cannot be picked up. Nor will grass clippings, roots, thorn bearing branches, tree trunks, stumps or construction materials be collected.

The compost site will also open for the 2024 season on Tuesday, April 2, and will adhere to the following hours through November:
