Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation is hosting a free winter event today from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Mayors' Riverfront Park, and Downtown Kalamazoo will host the second annual "Ice in the Zoo" on Saturday.
Attendees can enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and holiday lights while supplies last. It starts Thursday, December 12, at Bronson Park.
The City of Kalamazoo invites visitors to stroll through the heated streets and explore the charming Outdoor Mall.
Located between Michigan Avenue and Lovell Street, the new kiosks allow for a maximum of 90 minutes of parking.
Commission members will vote on the installation of meter kiosks along the mall to discourage speeding and increase turnover in the area.
Several downtown streets will be converted to two-way traffic, along with modernizing underground utilities and incorporating safer and more people-focused street-level designs.
A major overhaul is in the works for a document that helps set the future character of downtown Kalamazoo. At a regular meeting of the Kalamazoo City Commission this past Monday, City Planner Christina Anderson detailed proposed changes to the city code that will introduce a concept called form-based zoning to the city. A public hearing on the proposed changes is scheduled to take place this coming Monday, November 2.
