The Kalamazoo Public Library will be the site for an open house on May 8 to help the community share their thoughts and ideas for economic development in the city.

The council identified key issues within the state including a lack of population growth — complicated by a lack of young people moving to or remaining in the state — contributing to a loss of tax revenue to fund schools, public amenities and quality of life within Michigan communities.
Michigan Advance’s Rick Haglund says, “Michigan’s business-centric approach to economic development is lacking.” But how should the state address this apparent issue? Haglund suggests taking “a more local service-based approach.”
