The Three Rivers City Commission will meet this evening and is expected to again attempt to select a mayor pro tem. The commission will also consider a funding request tied to a Michigan State Housing Development Authority Neighborhood Community Development Block Grant. The city previously submitted a letter of intent requesting $600,000, but staff are requesting a revision to $700,000 after receiving higher-than-expected cost estimates. The funds would be used to renovate the upper floors of 111 Portage Ave. into three apartments.

McNary to remain mayor pro-tem for another two weeks after expressing desire to shed role

Commissioner Carolyn McNary was unanimously appointed to the role in November but has since declined the position due to other obligations. The commission will try again to elect a mayor pro-tem at its December 16 meeting. McNary agreed to continue serving in the position until then.

Stanfill said the two biggest issues facing the City of Three Rivers are the water system and city-code enforcement. Stanfill committed to addressing water-related internal city processes and said he is hopeful for change, but didn't provide further details. “I believe there’s some positive light headed our way in regards to our water. You know, I’ll let that play out organically and refrain from any further comment on that at this time,” Stanfill said, adding that he doesn't want to speak for other commissioners or city staff.

Commissioners are scheduled to hold two public hearings concerning delinquent accounts. The first deals with unpaid utility bills totaling just under $6,900, while the second concerns more than $7,900 in outstanding general accounts receivable.
