In 2022, Stewart Rhodes was convicted in federal court of seditious conspiracy related to the January 6 attack and sentenced to 18 years in prison. He was later granted clemency by President Donald Trump in January 2025.

Sturgis mayor announces candidacy for Michigan House seat

Sturgis Mayor Frank Perez announced he'll run against incumbent Rep. Steve Carra (R-Three Rivers) for the 36th District seat in the Michigan House of Representatives. Perez, Carra, and Michael Malmborg of Colon will face off in the Republican primary in August. Erin Schultes of Three Rivers is currently running unopposed on the Democratic side.

Candidate questionnaire: Amy East, State Representative, District 59

Watershed Voice sent out questionnaires to over 75 candidates running for elected positions in St. Joseph County and the surrounding area. In the days leading up to the Michigan Primary on August 4, Watershed will publish the questionnaires it received back as well as an election preview. Amy East, a Democratic candidate running for the Michigan House of Representatives and District 59, filled out WSV's questionnaire ahead of Tuesday's primary. East and Larry Walton were the only candidates in this particular race who responded to our questionnaire.
