Sturgis city commissioners will meet Monday evening for a special work session regarding the city’s 2023-2024 Fiscal Year budget. The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. at Sturgis City Hall.

Commissioners will be provided a draft budget and capital plan put together by city staff, and City Clerk Kenneth Rhodes told Watershed Voice the plan will change based on what is discussed at the Monday night meeting. “This budget work session will provide the commission with information that will help them determine the city operating millage rate, which will be the subject of the public hearing at the regular meeting on Wednesday, June 14th,” Rhodes said.

In the event not every fund and topic is discussed during Monday’s work session, there has been a second session tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 21. The adoption of the budget should take place after the public hearing, which is set for August 9.
