Local grant program helping women pursue educational and employment goals

Application window opens Friday

The Women’s Education Coalition Grant Program’s next application window opens on Friday, March 15. The program aims to help women in Kalamazoo, Barry, Calhoun, Allegan, St. Joseph, and Van Buren Counties pursue educational and employment goals.

The grant program is a collaboration between Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, the YWCA of Kalamazoo, and the former Kalamazoo Learning Network. Women with a significant break in their education are eligible to apply. Applicants must be able to show how post-secondary education will help them reach financial independence goals.

Priority will be given to underemployed, working mothers, and women who are enrolling or are enrolled in not-for-profit education institutions on a part-time or full-time basis.

The grant can be used to enroll in professional development, trade, technology, vocational or certificate programs, or an associate’s, bachelor’s, or master’s degree program. Funds can also be used for tuition, fees, books, childcare, transportation, and other educational needs. The amount of the grant will vary based on financial need, and funding is renewable.
