Suspect fled scene

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a shooting in Leonidas Township on Saturday afternoon. A man was found to have been shot in the shoulder and was airlifted to the hospital for treatment.

The shooting was reported at about 2:57 p.m. in the 30000 block of Longnecker Rd. on Saturday, April 13. Deputies say the suspected shooter fled the scene before they arrived.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooting was not random and there appears to be no ongoing risk to the public, deputies say. The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Department.
