The St. Joseph County Commission on Aging (COA) joins a growing list of other agencies announcing curtailments of services in compliance with an order issued Sunday by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). For COA, the order means temporary cancellation of all group activities at its Three Rivers and Sturgis enrichment centers while the HHS order is in effect starting Wednesday, November 18. The HHS order expires on December 8, 2020 but could be subject to extension.

A “Trunk-or-Treat” event at YMCA Camp Eberhart took place this weekend, drawing several hundred carloads of trick-or-treaters. Families came in vehicles of all kinds from St. Joseph County, surrounding counties, and northern Indiana to take part in the socially distanced Halloween event. Roughly 40 organizations and private individuals hosted “trunks,” wherein they passed out candy to the families that came from the trunks of their vehicles. Some set up elaborate Halloween displays.
St. Joseph County Administrator Teresa Doehring said the bargaining unit representing the county’s largest group of clerical employees has rejected a proposed agreement under which employees would work a reduced, 35-hour workweek for the remainder of the year. The hours reduction was a measure to attempt to mitigate ongoing revenue losses in the county.
