The Three Rivers Artist Guild is set to host “Paint Out the Town” in downtown Three Rivers on Saturday, July 29. A friendly, quick-draw, “plein air” competition, the event allows artists to originate, paint, complete, and frame a piece of art created outdoors in a three-hour time period in one day.

Over a dozen businesses are bringing the heat this weekend to the Downtown Three Rivers Chili Cook-Off with proceeds from the event going toward two community projects. Hosted by the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) on Saturday, March 4, local merchants will craft their own versions of an award-winning chili recipe to be tasted and judged by the public.
TRiM leaders Mike Curtis and Lisa DeVine recently installed new artwork to a signboard over one of the storefronts belonging to Lowry’s Books and More. The panel features a row of colorful bookends in relief, designed to look like a full bookshelf.
The popcorn stand next to the Spring Street entrance to Scidmore Park is open and serving after a group of volunteers spent several weeks repairing, restoring, and repainting it.
A small group of volunteers met on Monday morning in Scidmore Park to discuss work on the park’s venerable popcorn stand. Jerry Barkley, owner of the Kelsey Block Brewing Company, joined Mike Curtis and Lisa DeVine of Three Rivers Improvement Movement (TRIM) to begin repairs in preparation for the summer season.
