A public hearing for Sturgis’ proposed 2024-25 budget will take place during the 6 p.m. city commission meeting Wednesday, August 14.
Sturges-Young Center for the Arts
A local, original musical production will open tonight at the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts in downtown Sturgis. The production is called “The Imagination of History,” a sequel to the 2019 production “The Imagination of Storybooks.”
Later this month the Sturgis Civic Players will be bringing 12 Incompetent Jurors to the ballroom of the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts. This new production is a parody of 12 Angry Men, and will be performed at 7 p.m. on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23, and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24.
Jamie Eymer, the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts’ event coordinator since June 2022, was hired to the director’s position after the departure of Sheila Bolda in July, effective September 25. Also, an update on Sturgis Hospital.
The Sturgis Area Community Foundation (SACF) recently announced Sturgis Public Schools teacher Tyson Dilts as the recipient of the 2023 John E. Oster Award for Excellence in Teaching.
At a Sturgis City Commission meeting Wednesday proceedings included an award for the city’s wastewater treatment plant, an update on the needs of the unhoused in the community, and new developments with the Sturges-Young Center for the Arts, among others.
