According to the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department, River Run Road resident Danny Madden is the recipient of the 2020 Citizen Life Saving Award for St. Joseph County. Madden responded after a neighbor was involved in a lawn mower accident on Memorial Day 2020, this past Monday, May 25.

In a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mark Lillywhite said, “Mr. Madden’s actions truly went above and beyond.” Madden was one of the first people to arrive at the scene of the accident, and provided assistance to the injured and the injured’s father, as well as to first responders.

Madden applied pressure to the victim’s wound with a towel until first responders arrived. He permitted emergency vehicles to cross his yard in order to set up a landing area for the AirCare unit, permitted other emergency response staging on his property, and supplied bottled water to first response staff.

Sheriff’s department seeks info on two cases

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department Monday issued two press releases seeking additional information on a pair of cases that took place in the last two weeks.

The first, a larceny, occurred in Colon Township between July 1 and July 11. A suspect entered a garage in the 58000 block of Willow Drive, where they stole an Echo leaf blower and a Ryobi power washer.

The second, a breaking and entering case, is believed to have occurred on the night of July 11 in Sherman Township. In that case, a suspect entered a shed in the 27000 block of Orchard Drive and stoke an Earthquake brand rototiller.

Persons with information on either case can contact Deputy Mark Mellinger at 269-467-9045, ext. 327, to provide details.
