Local Meetings Primer: City, County Commissions Meeting Tonight

The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners and the Three Rivers City Commission will both hold regular meetings as planned this evening, Tuesday, January 5, 2021.

In lieu of face-to-face meetings, both will be conducted via the Zoom online meeting platform, which is also accessible by telephone. During public comment periods, folks can request an opportunity to speak using the chat function of the online platform, the “raise hand” feature, or by pressing *9 if attending by telephone.

St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners (5 p.m.)

The County Commission meets through a Zoom meeting link for anyone who wishes to attend remotely. Attendance requires entry of the access passcode of 952669. For the County meetings, the link and passcode changes for each meeting. It is also possible to phone into the Zoom sessions by dialing 312-626-6799 and entering the meeting’s conference ID code, 815 6767 3905, along with the passcode.

Tonight commissioners will consider the renewal of a grant writer services agreement, requests for exceptions to the county’s hiring freeze for assistant prosecuting attorney (two positions) and a document imaging coordinator/secretary, as well as resolutions related to Community Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and Community Health Agency appropriations. The board will also set dates for its 2021 executive and regular meetings, and consider nominations/appointments to the Community Corrections Advisory Board. 

Three Rivers City Commission (6 p.m.)

The Three Rivers City Commission will hold a public hearing to consider a Special Exception Use (SEU) permit for a domestic assault shelter. 

Other items on Tuesday’s agenda include a comprehensive report on the city’s Public Participation Strategy for city planning, and a change order in the amount of $37,000 to Fleis and Vandenbrink for design engineering for bridges on Hoffman Street over the Rocky River and Broadway Street over the St. Joseph River. 

Commissioners will also vote on a proposed Cross Connection Control Program contract extension, a purchase order in the amount of $138,000 to Hurley and Stewart for construction engineering on the Meyer Broadway Trail, the purchase of Muffin Monster replacement cutters from Kennedy Industries in the amount of $11,785, and an additional change order to Windemuller Electric for maintenance and repairs in the amount of $7,500.
