Colon woman transported to hospital after car strikes tree

Grandchildren uninjured

A 65-year-old Colon woman was transported to Borgess Hospital Tuesday morning after the vehicle she was driving struck a tree in Sherman Township.

At approximately 10:21 a.m. Tuesday, March 23, deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were to dispatched to Shimmel Road near Banker Street. The woman, who was traveling with her two grandsons ages 15 and 13, was traveling southbound on Shimmel when she veered off the roadway and struck a tree. The woman’s grandchildren were uninjured, and drugs and alcohol were not a factor in the crash and seatbelts were worn.

Tri Township Fire and Rescue, LifeCare Ambulance and Chuck’s Towing assisted deputies at the scene.
