Travel advisory issued for St. Joseph County effective Thursday afternoon

The St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department has issued a travel advisory for the county effective at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, December 22 until 1 p.m. Saturday, December 24 to coincide with the National Weather Service-issued blizzard warning.

Road conditions are expected to become hazardous, and in some cases, roads will become impassible. Widespread blowing and drifting of snow will significantly reduce visibility, and strong winds coupled with low wind chill may cause additional hazards for travelers.

All non-essential traffic is being asked to stay off roadways, and the general public should not travel unless absolutely necessary. If someone does decide to travel, they should maintain adequate supplies in case they become stranded, at which point all occupants should remain with the vehicle.
