Glen Oaks’ winter enrollment numbers are the best they’ve been in years

Glen Oaks Community College recently announced its enrollment numbers for the winter semester. Enrollment is up 11% (1,252) over the same semester last year. Meanwhile, credit hours students enrolled in are up 14% (10,685), representing the largest enrollment in over a decade.

The breakdown of the data report shows:

• Dual enrollment for high school students accounts for 58%.

• Dual enrollment is up 11.5%. One-hundred-and-eighty-two students are currently enrolled in the Early Middle College program, where they complete an associate degree after their 13th year of education.

• Adult enrollment represents 42% of the total.

• Adult enrollment is up 9.6%.

• The adult increase is credited to the Michigan Reconnect (MIReconnect) program, which provides financial support to all Michigan residents over 21 to attend college.

“We are seeing increased interest in attending college on the part of both high school and adult students as it becomes ever clearer that the path to higher wages and work satisfaction requires additional education beyond high school,” Glen Oaks President Dr. David Devier said. “This could mean a short-term technical certificate or a degree.

“The special Michigan financial support programs are also having a positive effect by encouraging attendance to reach the goal of 60 percent of Michigan working-age adults holding a certificate or degree by 2030.”
