The world-class teen-only CrossFit® competition known as “The Pit,” a competition featuring 270 athletes that has traditionally taken place in Three Rivers, is coming north. The fifth iteration of the annual event will take place at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo on August 28, 29, 31, and September 1, with “Pit Day” still taking place in Three Rivers on Friday, August 30.

“When we were sought out by CrossFit to organize the 2024 Games for the teens, we realized we were going to need more space so athletes, parents, coaches, sponsors and others can have the best experience possible,” Stephanie Price, co-founder and director of operations for the Pit Teen Throwdown, said.

“This is simply the best of both worlds, really. The athletes get to be under the lights and the jumbotron and have that arena experience — but also come down to The Pit for a day on the trails and in the sand, slag, and water.”

In Three Rivers, participants will compete at the Pit Fitness Ranch, a 65-acre piece of land with woods and water, slag and sand. Previously a gravel pit, it is now home to Triple River CrossFit, an affiliate owned by Brock and Autumn Yost, directors of the 2024 Teenage CrossFit Games.

Wings Event Center is home to the KWings hockey team and features a 17,000-square-foot main arena and many other spaces to move and eat and hang out at the 2024 Teenage CrossFit Games.

“We’re gonna use the space, too,” Price said. “We’re excited to work with the crew at Wings to give athletes the CrossFit Games® experience they deserve — complete with livestream, a great field of play, a VIP lounge, plenty of vendor and media space and more.”

Athletes, spectators, and fans can visit the event’s website for more information.
