Volunteers sought for Kalamazoo River cleanup

Spring landscape of the Kalamazoo River.

A community-wide effort to clean up the Kalamazoo River is underway. The Michigan Waterways Stewards, Rotary Club of Kalamazoo, City of Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo Parks and many other partners have joined forces to organize the cleanup effort.

The river, as well as its adjoining river trails, parks, and low lands, will be cleared of litter, trash, and other evidence of urban living on Saturday, April 20. The cleanup effort will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Mayors’ Riverfront Park (251 Mills St.).

There are opportunities for individuals, businesses, and organizations to get involved. You can pledge to be a volunteer, event sponsor or partner organization here.

After the main event of the day, there will food and drinks provided to volunteers to celebrate their efforts to clean up the river.
