All four were taken to the hospital for treatment

Four people were taken to the hospital with injuries sustained in a head-on crash on Saturday afternoon in Milton Township, according to the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.

Marshall Smith, of Sauk Village, Illinois, was driving southbound on Gumwood Road when he crossed the center line and hit another vehicle head-on around 3:44 p.m. on Saturday. The driver of the other vehicle, Jess Gose, of Mishawaka, Indiana, was heading northbound on Gumwood Road near East Bertrand Road when the collision occurred.

Smith as well as Gose and his two passengers, DanYelle Watkins and a juvenile, were taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital with injuries sustained in the crash.

Authorities say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash, which remains under investigation. All involved parties were wearing seatbelts.

SMCAS Ambulance and Niles Township Fire assisted deputies at the scene.
