Sturgis to begin May brush pickup next week

(City of Sturgis Facebook page)

The City of Sturgis will begin its May brush pickup service next week. On Monday, May 6, crews will begin collecting brush on the north side of the city and work their way south.

Officials say weather conditions and varying amounts of brush can make it difficult to stick to a strict schedule. Therefore, residents are asked to place their materials on the terrace ready for pickup, and crews will get to them as soon as possible. The city also reminds residents it is unlawful to place brush or leaves beyond the curb in the street.

Crews will only make one pass down the north and south sides of the city, so missing next week’s pickup could mean having to wait until the first full week in October, when crews come back around again. With that said, brush can be dropped off at the city compost site through the month of November.

Compost Site hours are as follows:

April through October
Tuesday – Noon to 7:30 p.m.
Thursday – Noon to 7:30 p.m.
Saturday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday – 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

November
Tuesday – Noon to 6 p.m.
Thursday – Noon to 6 p.m.
Saturday – 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday – 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Materials must be neatly stacked on the terrace away from objects such as power poles, guy wires, sign posts, valve boxes, and other obstructions. A limit of one truck load of material per parcel will be collected and hauled away.

Limbs, branches or brush material larger than 4 inches in diameter will not be collected. Limbs, branches or brush material longer than 8 feet in length will not be collected.
No grass clippings, roots, thorn bearing branches, tree trunks, stumps or construction materials will be collected.
