Three Rivers man charged in fatal stabbing

Update (9:38 a.m. Friday, May 10): Michael Lamar Taylor of Three Rivers was arraigned in 3B District Court for one count of open murder in the death of Ervan Leroy Taylor on Tuesday, May 7.

A 46-year-old Three Rivers man has been charged with open murder after allegedly stabbing a 61-year-old late Sunday night, according to the Three Rivers Police Department.

Officers were called to the 300 block of Fourth Ave. in Three Rivers at 11:49 p.m. on Sunday, May 5 after reports of people screaming. When they arrived, authorities found a 61-year-old man who had been stabbed. He airlifted to Bronson Methodist Hospital, where he later died.

The suspect, a 46-year-old man also from Three Rivers, was taken to St. Joseph County Jail where he is being held on an open murder charge. The St. Joseph County Major Crime Task Force was called to the scene because of the severity of the crime.

The Three Rivers Police Department says they appreciate the help of the St. Joseph Sheriff’s Department and Michigan State Police in the investigation. The City of Three Rivers also expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
