Kalamazoo City Commission meeting: June 3

The Kalamazoo City Commission met on Monday, June 3 and took the following actions:

  • Accepted a $12,272,799 Reconnecting Communities Pilot Program Grant from the United States Department of Transportation and approval of a budget amendment. The grant will fund the future reconstruction of Kalamazoo and Michigan Avenues. 
  • Approved a professional services agreement with Wightman & Associates for $214,050 to provide engineering support for the Michikal improvements project. Wightman & Associates was also approved for an additional $229,000 to design a two-way conversion for Kalamazoo Avenue.
  • Approved a contract with Tetra Tech, Inc for lift station control panels, programming, and engineering support for $465,000.
  • Approved Kalamazoo County Club ‘s request for a permit to publicly display fireworks on July 4 at 1609 Whites Rd.
  • Adopted a resolution approving a request from the Downtown Development Authority to levy a tax rate of 1.9638 mills.
  • As reported previously, the first reading of an ordinance to amend sections within Chapter 36, the Traffic Code, related to overnight parking, meter rates, and operational hours of meters was postponed to June 17 meeting.
