Pictured is a young girl reading an illustrated book in Pleasant Green School, near Marlinton, West Virginia. The one-room school was one of the best schools for African Americans in Pocahontas County. Oct. 1921.

“How to Black History Month” was originally recorded on February 26, 2019 and marked the first episode of The Unapologetics Podcast hosted by Malachi “A+scribe” Carter. Watershed Voice will rollout all nine episodes of Season 1 over the next nine weeks as well as any new episodes from Season 2. So tune in each Thursday for more from Malachi Carter.

Season 1, Episode 1: A+scribe and artist-friend Mickey Young exchange tips, pedagogy, and best practices with college friend Jacob McCall as he celebrates Black History Month with his 5th graders. Jacob teaches at Columbus Signature Academy, a school dedicated to preparing “socially engaged citizens who excel in an information and technology rich society.” If you’re a teacher, white, and unsure how to engage with your diverse or mainstream students in February, then this is the convo for you, Fam!
