Three Rivers man arrested after crash causes house fire

A 25-year-old Three Rivers man was arrested Monday following a single-vehicle crash that resulted in a house fire in Colon Township.

Deputies from the St. Joseph County Sheriff’s Department were dispatched to the area of Burr Oak Road and West Palmer Lake Road for a single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival officers found a single-family home engulfed in flames. Deputies ultimately determined that the 25-year-old’s vehicle had left the roadway and struck the home, likely striking a gas line in the process, and causing the fire.

The driver was arrested and lodged at St. Joseph County Jail as of Monday, and his identity is being withheld pending formal arraignment.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Colon Police and Fire Departments, Burr Oak Fire Department, Leonidas Fire Department, Bronson Fire Department, Tri-County Fire Department and Consumers Energy.
