Glen Oaks Community College Athletic Director Joel Mishler announced the hiring of Tracy Sterling Monday as the next head volleyball coach for the Vikings’ program. Sterling comes to Glen Oaks after leading Sturgis High School’s Varsity program to a 92-62-8 record as its head coach over the past four years.
“We are excited to welcome Tracy to Glen Oaks and particularly our Glen Oaks athletics family,” Mishler said. “She has done a great job at the high school and club levels of developing young women of character who become outstanding volleyball players and teams. Her teams consistently get better and are known by their competitors for bringing a tough, scrappy, winning mindset to the court. We are looking forward to Tracy bringing that same mindset and winning ways to our program, both on and off the court, at Glen Oaks.”
While at Sturgis, Sterling’s teams progressively made improvements over the years as her first team garnered a 12-22-2 record and in subsequent years went 18-11, 26-10-2, and 36-19-4. Her teams won both the St. Joseph County Tournament and the Bridgman Tournament in 2021 and 2022. In three of her four years at the helm, Sturgis finished runner-up in districts and in 2022, Sterling was named the Wolverine Conference Coach of the Year.
Sterling will take over a Glen Oaks program that finished 10-14 and one point away from post-season play in 2022 under Interim Head Coach Michael Crothers.
“I am honored and excited to be the next Glen Oaks volleyball coach,” Sterling said. “This is an amazing opportunity for me personally, but I am more excited to grow the GOCC Viking Volleyball program with top local volleyball talent from our surrounding communities. As a Sturgis Public Schools alumna, I was proud to be entrusted to lead the Sturgis volleyball program for the past four years. I feel we were able to refocus our program goals, and build a strong foundation and love for the game all the way down to our Jr. Trojan Youth Camps.”
Volleyball players interested in playing at Glen Oaks are encouraged to contact Coach Sterling by going to the www.glenoaks.edu website and filling out the “Prospective Student Athlete form” found under the Athletics page.
