Three Rivers man arrested after crash seriously injures 5-year-old child

Child was airlifted to hospital, remains in stable condition

A Three Rivers man is facing charges after police say he was drunk when he crashed his vehicle, seriously injuring his five-year-old child who was airlifted to the hospital as a result.

Officers were called to the area of Jefferson St. and Fourth St. near Three Rivers High School around 2:36 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a single car crash with injuries.

When they arrived, emergency personnel found a 5-year-old child had been in the car and had suffered serious injuries to the facial area. The child was taken to Bronson Hospital via helicopter after life-saving measures were taken to stablize their condition.

The initial investigation at the scene revealed the driver, a 43-year-old Three Rivers man, was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. The man was arrested on several charges and is being held at St. Joesph County Jail.

As of publication time the child remains listed in stable condition.
