Kalamazoo City Commission approves contracts, development plan

The Kalamazoo City Commission met on Monday, March 18 and took the following actions.

  • The commission approved a contract with Waste Management of Michigan to remove waste and recyclable materials from city properties. The contract is effective for two years and amounts to $103,283.23.
  • The city also approved a sole source purchase with Applied Asset Management Consultants to align human and physical infrastructure assets for Wastewater. The $104,840 contract was also moved from the consent agenda item.
  • Other contracts approved by the city commission include: Lyster Contracting Inc. for a roof replacement at the Water Reclamation Plant ($165,775), and Blue Cleaning for custodial services at various city properties ($184,014.99). The city also approved professional service agreements with Hubbell Rother & Clark, Inc for an MDOT traffic signal optimization project ($204,998.39), and Hurley & Stewart, LLC for professional design engineering services related to the Burdick Street Improvements, Reed Avenue to Lovell Street ($470,000).
  • The city commission also adopted a resolution approving an amended development and tax increment financing plan for the Kalamazoo Downtown Economic Growth Authority. The plan is to help finance infrastructure improvements in the area.
